About the Audi R8
This prestige project, created under Martin Winterkorn, set new standards: provocatively aggressive looks paired with pure motorsport DNA. The result? The fastest, most exclusive car in the brand’s history. The design of this mid-engine sports car combines inspiration from the Le Mans quattro concept and the Audi RSQ, known from the Hollywood movie “I, Robot.”
Sales of the Audi R8 started in Germany in April 2007. First came the Coupé with the 4.2-liter V8 FSI delivering an impressive 420 hp and 430 Nm from 4500 to 6000min-1. The Audi tops out at 300 km/h, an experience every car enthusiast should have at least once in their life. To drive an Audi R8 isn’t just traveling – it’s pure, unforgettable excitement.
In 2012 the R8 received a major facelift, still offered as Coupé or Spyder. Upgrades included a dual-clutch S tronic gearbox for lightning-fast shifts, LED headlights, redesigned taillights, a new single-frame grille, and matching exhaust outlets for V8 and V10 models.
2012 also saw the end of the all-electric R8 e-tron. The 381 hp, 820 Nm electric coupe, powered by two motors, never made it to customers – battery issues sealed its fate.
