About the Audi R8
This prestige icon, still created under Martin Winterkorn, truly set new standards. Aggressive styling meets pure motorsport DNA. The result? The fastest and most expensive road car in company history. The mid-engine sports car’s design took cues from the Le Mans quattro study and the Audi RSQ featured in the Hollywood blockbuster “I, Robot.”
Sales of the Audi R8 kicked off in Germany in April 2007, first as a coupe, powered by a 4.2-liter V8 FSI engine with a fierce 420 hp and 430 Nm between 4,500 and 6,000 rpm. It easily hits a top speed of 300 km/h. An experience every car enthusiast should have at least once in their lives. Driving the Audi R8 is more than just getting from A to B – it’s an unforgettable adventure.
In 2012, the R8 underwent a comprehensive facelift. Still available as both a coupe and spyder, the upgrades included the S tronic dual-clutch gearbox for lightning-fast shifts, updated standard LED headlights, new taillights, a new single-frame grille, and identical exhausts for the V8 and V10 models.
2012 also marked the end of the R8 e-tron. This all-electric sports coupé—boasting 381 hp and 820 Nm from two electric motors—never made it to market, reportedly due to battery technology issues.
